Kesley Burgess, 25, died after being injured while trying to defend his family during Thursday's incident at his Lurnea home in Sydney's southwest.
A 19-year-old Doonside man was arrested as he was leaving Bankstown Hospital, police said yesterday.
He was charged with murder and aggravated break and enter to commit a serious indictable offence.
The man was also charged with aggravated break and enter, over an earlier home invasion on Thursday night at Warwick Farm.
