SEOUL, South Korea (AP) The mother of an American detained in North Korea has ended her visit to the country, leaving behind her son, who she says is more anxious than ever to go home.
Myunghee Bae says she saw her son Kenneth Bae, a Korean-American missionary and tour operator, at a hospital three times after arriving in the country on Friday.
She said in a statement that she was relieved to see her son's health has been improving, but it "broke my heart" to leave him behind.
Her statement was published Monday on a website called "Free Kenneth Bae."
Kenneth Bae was arrested in November for allegedly hostile acts but was transferred over the summer from a prison camp to the hospital because he had lost more than 22 kilograms (50 pounds).
