Mother drives into house, kills toddler

A woman who mistakenly hit the accelerator instead of the brake has crashed her car into her home, killing her two-year-old son and seriously injuring her father.

The boy and the 63-year-old man were sitting on the porch of the house in Sorrento, on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula last night, when the 32-year-old woman arrived home.

Police believe that as she tried to park her car on the lawn, she mistakenly hit the accelerator instead of the brake, crashing into the house and hitting the pair, reported to be her son and father.

Paramedics were unable to save the child.

"The boy suffered a large cut to the head and internal injuries," paramedic Russell Calley said.

"He was treated by paramedics for more than an hour but tragically he died at the scene."

Mr Calley said the man suffered chest injuries and a seriously fractured arm.

"He was actually crushed between the car and the wall of the house until he could be freed," he said.

The man was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious condition.
