More than 240 nuisance alligators have been caught and euthanised on Walt Disney World property in Florida over the past decade, reports the Orlando Sentinel.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) released a records following the death of a 2-year-old boy last week at Disney World's Seven Seas Lagoon. Lane Graves of Nebraska was visiting the park with his family when he was snatched by an alligator at Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
FWC have removed and euthanised six alligators from the area since the attack, announcing in a statement that the area was a "poor alligator habitat that will not support a large population of adult alligators."
There were 6,706 nuisance alligators caught in Florida in 2014, the most recent year available, FWC statistics show.
FWC say that they have completed their work on the Disney property where Graves was snatched.
