More floods hit Australia

The central Victorian town of Carisbrook was last night deserted and almost submerged as heavy rains flood communities across the state.

Residents in South Australia were told to prepare for the flooding of local creeks because of inflows from the Victorian floods, while some of Tasmania's heaviest-ever rain forced the evacuation of residents across the state, with rivers and dams bursting their banks.

In Victoria, after days of deluge, the nearby reservoir couldn't hold any more water and Carisbrook, a town of around 1000 people, was inundated yesterday.

Evacuation warnings had also been issued for Bridgewater, Newbridge, Dadswell Bridge, Halls Gap, Great Western, Charlton and Glenorchy.

In Tasmania, residents were evacuated in the towns of Wynyard, Railton and Chudleigh in the state's northwest, where several homes were inundated.

South Australia authorities warned flooding could occur in the Naracoorte, Mosquito and Morambro creeks around Naracoorte, in the state's southeast.
