JERUSALEM - Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres begins a four-day visit to the United States today after holding inconclusive talks in Egypt and Jordan on their joint plan for ending Israeli-Palestinian bloodshed.
Gun battles flared yesterday in the Gaza Strip, wounding eight Palestinians and one Israeli. Palestinians fired two mortar bombs at a Jewish settlement there, causing no casualties. A car bomb exploded near a Jewish settler school bus in the West Bank, but no one on the bus was hurt. The body of a suspected Palestinian suicide bomber was found at the scene. Police detonated another bomb in the Israeli town of Netanya.
