Two more people have been shot dead in Melbourne, just hours after the slaying of crime patriarch Macchour Chaouk in his own backyard.
Victorian Police have played down links to organised crime as they investigate the second shooting incident.
Police are questioning a suspect after two men, believed to be in their 60s or 70s, were shot dead at a Carlton gaming venue in Melbourne's inner north.
Witnesses say the gunman approached Players on Lygon Street shortly before 5pm, and shot one man on the footpath and other inside the venue.
They say the scene was chaotic with customers screaming and diving for cover behind tables.
The alleged killer then left the building and chased a third man, who managed to escape, across the park in Argyle Place.
A man in his 50s was taken into custody by police soon after he returned to the venue.
Police say there appears to be no link between this latest crime and the murder of crime patriarch Macchour Chaouk, 65.
Chaouk was shot at his heavily secured Brooklyn home in Melbourne's west at 11am yesterday.
