KEY POINTS:
CANBERRA - Police expect more arrests after nabbing four Australian men accused of being part of an international internet paedophile ring.
The arrests were part of a global operation to smash the internet pornography ring which used a chat room to stream live videos of children being raped.
The Australian Federal Police described the initial four arrests as just the "tip of the iceberg" after gathering a substantial amount of information on other potential participants as part of the global investigation.
No Australian child victims were identified but one child was removed from its situation as a precautionary measure.
Of the four Australian arrests, one man faced a Victorian court in April and was sentenced to seven months' jail after pleading guilty.
A 23-year-old West Australian man will be sentenced on July 20 after pleading guilty to two charges related to child pornography in March, while a 31-year-old South Australian will appear in court tomorrow.
Police said charges were pending against one other man, who is believed to be from Melbourne.
The arrests are part of the international Operation Lobate, which involved law enforcement agencies from around the world, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Italy and Canada.
The paedophile ring was traced to an internet chat room called Kids the Light of Our Lives that featured images of children being subjected to horrific sexual abuse.
