MELBOURNE - Gangland widow Judy Moran has been charged with the murder of her brother-in-law Des Moran, five weeks after wailing over his dead body in the doorway of a Melbourne cafe.
Moran and family friend Suzanne Kane were both charged with murder last night after initially being charged with being accessories after the fact.
Detectives believe they now have more evidence for a motive and have also examined further CCTV footage on the streets near the murder scene, which has led to the laying of upgraded charges.
Kane's boyfriend Geoffrey Armour was last month charged with the murder of Moran who was gunned down by two gunmen at the busy Ascot Pasta and Deli Cafe in Ascot Vale at lunchtime on June 15. All three will appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court today.
Kane and Armour will also appear in court on Friday when police will ask for DNA samples from the pair in relation to the murder weapon, several other items found after the murder. Another gunman and getaway driver are still being sought.
Moran, 64, has been in custody since bail was refused on June 17, on the grounds she was considered a danger to the community because she had access to a cache of weapons.
