Missing Belgian backpacker found by Australian police

A missing Belgian backpacker is safe and is talking with police after fears she had been kidnapped east of Adelaide in Australia.

Davine Arckens, 24, was found at a property at Murray Bridge on Friday after a tip-off to police from a member of the public.

Earlier in the day detectives had expressed fears the tourist was being held against her will and appealed to anyone who had her captive to release her without harm.

They said they had received credible information she was being held somewhere in the Murray-Mallee area.

Arckens had left her tourist accommodation in Adelaide's CBD and boarded a bus to Murray Bridge on Thursday morning.

From there it was thought she had been picked up by someone in a red ute.

Detective Inspector Greg Hutchins said the woman was alone at the Murray Bridge address when officers arrived.

"Thankfully I can say she is safe, she appears physically unharmed," he said.

Huchins said he could not elaborate on what information Arckens had given officers.

"What I can say is her family in Belgium have been advised and it's obviously a huge relief for them that she is safe," he said.

"She seems to have been through an experience. We'll work out exactly what happened."
Hutchins said the investigation of the case was continuing and appealed for anyone who had information about the woman's movements over the past two days to come forward.

It was unclear if anyone would face charges in relation to her disappearance.

Arckens arrived in Adelaide on February 2 and visited Kangaroo Island before returning to the state capital on February 6.

Facebook posts revealed she had also visited Sydney and Tasmania on her travels.
