Missing Air Asia flight: What we know now

Flight QZ8501 went missing between Indonesia and Singapore.

• 162 people on board flight QZ8501 that went missing between Indonesia and Singapore

• Seven crew, 155 passengers - 138 adults, 16 children and a baby

• 157 Indonesians, three South Koreans, one Malaysian, one Singaporean and one French

• The pilot had requested 'deviation' from its flight path because of bad weather. This has now been confirmed as climbing above clouds in its path.

• Singapore's Civil Aviation Service said the plane lost contact with Jakarta air traffic control while it was in Indonesian air space, about an hour before it was scheduled to land in Singapore.

• The plane lost contact when it was believed to be over the Java Sea between Kalimantan and Java islands

• The plane had enough fuel for three hours flying time from the point contact was lost. That three hours has now passed.

• A Boeing 737 surveillance plane has been deployed to the location where it's estimated the plane lost contact.

• Search efforts are being focused on an area between Belitung Island and Kalimantan, on the western side of the island of Borneo, about halfway along the expected route of flight QZ8501

• Plane is operated by the Indonesian affiliate of Air Asia. AirAsia is Asia's budget travel leader. It has dominated the cheap travel in the region for years and has never lost a plane before.

• The plane is six years old.

• Over last five years, there have been four commercial aircraft disasters with 160 plus on board. Three have been airlines headquartered in Malaysia.
