The Government is sending Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Chris Finlayson to the inauguration mass of Pope Francis in Rome next week.
"This will be a momentous occasion for the worldwide Catholic community, including Catholics in New Zealand," Mr Finlayson said.
He congratulated the people of Argentina for the selection.
