CAIRO (AP) An Egyptian security official says two speeding minibuses have collided on a one-lane road in the south, killing eight people.
The official says Tuesday's accident took place on the highway linking Cairo with the south, near al-Bargaia village in Minya province. He said 16 others were injured.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press.
Ambulances rushed to the area and transferred the injured to a nearby hospital.
Traffic crashes are common in Egypt due to badly maintained roads and poor enforcement of traffic laws. According to a 2012 World Health Organization report, road accidents kill about 12,000 people each year in the country.
