A worker at a South Australian mine has died in hospital after suffering serious burns while operating an excavator.
The 40-year-old Alinta Energy employee at the Leigh Creek mine in the state's north was injured on Friday night and flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he later died.
Alinta Energy chief executive Jeff Dimery offered his condolences to family and friends of the worker.
"We have immediately made available people and resources to provide support for our staff and the local community in dealing with this tragic event," he said in a statement.
In a statement issued on Friday the company said it was believed the man was operating an excavator at the time he suffered burns.
