Militants kill 17 in Nigeria

Militants say they killed 17 soldiers in two gun battles in Nigeria's oil heartland yesterday as violence between troops and rebels in the world's eighth largest oil exporter entered its fourth day.

Seven workers from a US company compound were kidnapped on Wednesday.
