We figured things would get awkward when Vice President-elect Mike Pence moved into the liberal, moneyed D.C. neighbourhood of Chevy Chase.
It didn't take long for neighbours to make it known that the conservative isn't in Indiana anymore - several homes surrounding his rental have hung gay-pride rainbow flags in protest of Pence's stance as the Hoosier State's governor on LGBT rights, and neighbors tell us there's been Facebook chatter about delivering rainbow-hued cakes to the new resident's door. (Pretty sure Secret Service is not going to be thrilled with that one.)
"This is one way that I can show my disagreement," Ilse Heintzen told WJLA.com, which first reported on the neighborhood trend, of her new decor.
Pence and his family are renting a home in Washington while he heads up the presidential transition. The family is expected to move into the vice president's residence at the Naval Observatory after his swearing-in in January.
