MADRID (AP) Spain's Interior Ministry says more than 100 sub-Saharan migrants got into Spain's two northwest African enclave cities, some barging through a fence and others sneaking in by swimming.
The ministry said some 300 migrants stormed a barbed-wire border fence hoping to enter Melilla from Morocco early Tuesday, and about 100 got through. Six police officers and one migrant were injured.
In Ceuta, several dozen migrants swam a short distance from Moroccan territory.
Melilla and Ceuta are both surrounded by Morocco on one side and the Mediterranean Sea on the other. Migrants hoping to get to Europe camp around both cities. Several thousand try to enter the enclaves each year but most are pushed back.
Those intercepted are placed in temporary accommodation while authorities try to repatriate them.
