MELBOURNE - The Melbourne man accused of owning a cache of illegal weapons - including a rocket launcher - has been granted bail.
Timothy Robert Vivoda, 36, a bonsai expert from Monbulk in Melbourne's east, reappeared in the Ringwood Magistrates' Court today.
He faces eight weapons-related charges after police last Thursday allegedly found firearms in his vehicle and more military gear inside his home.
His bail application on Friday was adjourned pending a psychiatric assessment, which has since been tendered to the court.
Defence lawyer Deborah Jefferson said Vivoda was not a risk to the community.
"He's simple, naive, a bit silly but doesn't pose a threat to the community," Ms Jefferson said.
Magistrate Carmen Randazzo granted bail but has yet to set a date for Vivoda's next court appearance.
The charges include failing to have a firearms licence, the unsafe storage of guns and ammunition, and not having the relevant licence to possess a rocket launcher and a grenade.
Both the rocket launcher and grenade were inoperable.
The court is expected to fix a date for his next appearance later today.
