Melbourne underworld figure gunned down

Another underworld figure has been gunned down in Melbourne. Police said the man, in his early 30s, was shot dead after an argument in a restaurant in inner-suburban Carlton.

A man apprehended near the scene was in custody.

Detective Inspector Andy Allen, the head of the Purana Task Force, which is investigating the spate of killings which has left more than 20 criminals killed in the past six years, said the victim was "a person of interest" to his force.
