MELBOURNE - A 19-year-old has been charged over an attack in which a teenager's left eye was pierced with a metal chair leg outside a Melbourne nightclub.
Victoria Police said the man turned himself in yesterday.
The victim, also 19, was injured during a gang fight on Sunday morning outside the Metro nightclub on Bourke Street, in the CBD.
Firefighters had to cut away part of the chair before the man, from suburban Northcote, could be treated by paramedics.
The 19mm-wide metal chair leg had pierced his left eye before becoming embedded in his brain.
The man, who has not been named, was still in a serious but stable condition in intensive care, Royal Melbourne Hospital spokesman Rod Jackson-Smith said today.
A 19-year-old man had been charged with recklessly causing serious injury and bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on March 22, Senior Constable David Fitzgerald said.
