A ceremony of reconciliation between a Solomon Islands warlord and rival militants has been cancelled amid rumours of a massacre on the troubled island of Guadalcanal.
Various sources, who did not wish to be named, said at least 11 people were missing, either lost at sea or killed in a battle.
Police in the Solomons capital, Honiara, have called for calm as the stories of a massacre continue to circulate, but they have been unable to confirm what has happened.
The nation has been brought to the edge of bankruptcy by a nearly four-year civil war.
