The Australian girlfriend of Stephen Paddock, who killed 59 people in a shooting rampage in Las Vegas, has returned to the US for questioning by the FBI.
Marilou Danley, 62, who lived for a time on the Gold Coast, was out of the country at the time of the shooting.
Today the FBI called her "a person of interest" and said they were bringing her back to the US from the Philippines for questioning. It's understood she arrived in US and was met by federal agents at the airport.
Sheriff Joseph Lombardo declined to confirm reports Paddock wired $US100,000 to the Philippines before the shooting. "I will assure you the investigation with her is ongoing and we anticipate some information from her shortly," Sheriff Lombardo said.
Danley travelled to Hong Kong on September 25 and was in the Philippines on Sunday when Paddock opened fire on the festival.
Glamorous and youthful, Danley lived a luxury life in a scenic desert resort-like retirement village 100km north of where Sunday night's shooting took place
But reports have emerged that all was not well and Paddock could be verbally abusive towards her.
The Los Angeles Times spoke to people who had come into contact with Paddock and Danley in their neighbourhood in Mesquite, Nevada.
Paddock was remembered for being nasty to Danley. "It happened a lot," Esperanza Mendoza, supervisor of a local Starbucks coffee shop in the casino recalled.
Whenever he and Danley came in for coffee she would offer to pay, Mendoza said.
"He would glare down at her and say - with a mean attitude - 'You don't need (a) casino card for this. I'm paying for your drink, just like I'm paying for you.'
"Then she would softly say, 'OK' and step back behind him. He was so rude to her in front of us."
It is still unclear as to what Danley's exact relationship with Paddock was, who US reports say was going through a divorce before carrying out the massacre which ended when he killed himself.
In some reports, she has been described as a "room mate" and on her now deleted Facebook page, a friend refers to her partner by the name of "Gary".
But the one-time hostess in the high roller room of a Nevada casino appears to have lived with him in the affluent Mesquite, Nevada retirement community, Sun City.
She, too, was previously married to an American man from Arkansas, with whom she had one daughter.
Danley married Geary Danley in Las Vegas in 1990 and they later divorced.
On Facebook she describes herself as a "proud Mum and grandmother".
In one Facebook post, Ms Danley describes her daughter and her granddaughter, who is a fourth grader, as "my 2 precious jewels and love of my life!".
Sun City is regarded as a safe community, with one of the lowest crime rates in the state of Nevada.
Stephen Paddock bought his home there in January 2015, for US$369,000.
US reports say that on top of his divorce proceedings, Stephen Paddock had a gambling problem.
As to any other possible motives for the massacre, there is also speculation Paddock was the man seen on video of an anti-Trump protest at Reno in Nevada in August this year.
After first describing her as a "person of interest" in the aftermath of the massacre perpetrated by Paddock, Nevada Police have now completely cleared Danley of any connection to the crime.
