Half the families in villages on the Tongan island of Niuatoputapu had their homes either damaged or destroyed by the tsunami.
Authorities continue to give assistance to the people of Niuatoputapu as well as providing co-ordination and support from Tongatapu. A French Navy ship is due today bringing help from Australia, New Zealand and France.
The Tongan patrol boat VOEA Savea arrived at the weekend with relatives of the dead, additional supplies, donated food and clothing, essential staff and equipment.
Australia and New Zealand have also sent aircraft with tents, generators, hurricane lamps, Oxfam buckets, blankets, tarpaulins and first aid.
A New Zealand Air Force P3 Orion completed an aerial survey yesterday and reported no substantial damage to Niuafo'ou, Tafahi and Vava'u.
Nine people died in the disaster.
Tongan King Siaosi (George) Tupou V left his country for a four-month holiday in August.
