A 34-year-old man has survived being stabbed five times in a dispute that erupted into gunfire, terrifying shoppers and residents along a busy Melbourne street in Coburg.
The victim had stopped by a car wash on Tuesday when at least two men approached and started arguing with him. He was stabbed and then chased his attackers down a laneway, but couldn't catch up to them.
Friends took him to hospital. Witnesses told police they also saw a gunman open fire, shooting multiple times at men running down the same laneway.
