A man has been found dead in the water after a suspected shark attack at a beach in Western Australia's Great Southern region.
Police rushed to Cheynes beach, near Albany, after a member of the public informed them just before 12.30pm that they had found a dead man in the water.
A spokesman said the man had an injury consistent with a shark bite, but further assessment would need to be made to confirm the attack.
Cheynes Beach is 68km east of Albany and popular with campers and anglers.
A worker at the local caravan park told AAP that sharks were not commonly seen in the area, except for a few bronze whalers.
