A 39-year-old man will be charged with three murders and a string of other offences after a deadly eight-hour siege in Adelaide.
He allegedly shot dead three members of one family, two men and a woman, injured a teenage boy and shot a policeman in the face before fleeing from their house to his home next door in suburban Hectorville.
He was arrested after tense negotiations with police, almost eight hours after they were called by a woman who said shots had been fired into her home.
SA Police Deputy Commissioner Gary Burns told reporters that police were at the house less than two minutes after the triple zero call.
"It will be alleged that the offender fired on police and the officers returned fire," he said.
"One officer was shot in the face.
"He is in a serious but stable condition with injuries to his jaw."
The man fled to his home next door and a siege situation developed while he and his mother were inside.
Police searched the first house and found three people dead with gunshot wounds - the husband of the woman who called police and her parents.
Police negotiated with the man for several hours before he was arrested about 10.15am.
The teenager is in hospital with serious injuries.
Police are asking residents to remain in their homes until they have been spoken to by officers so they can search the crime scene forensically and preserve any evidence.
The 39-year-old man will be charged with three counts of murder and at least one count of attempted murder plus other offences which are yet to be finalised.
