KEY POINTS:
A 40-year-old man has died after being shot by police in Brisbane last night, Sky News is reporting.
Residents of the south Brisbane suburb of Yeerongpilly reported hearing a loud band around 11 o'clock last night, before the man allegedly screamed "I'm going to kill you".
Police fired several shots at the man after he allegedly started acting suspiciously and attempted to run them over.
"One officers discharged his fire arm and the car's then proceeded or gone further down the street to Groveland Street, where it's gone through a fence and then into a base of a house," said Chief Superintendent Clem O'Ragan.
The man, the sole person in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene and a constable was taken to hospital.
Police were initially investigating the man after his car was parked in an odd manner on the street.
Australia's ethical standards command is investigating the incident and a post mortem examination will be carried out.
