KEY POINTS:
A man who fell asleep on a South Australian railway line has woken to find a train above him.
The 20-year-old Victorian man fell asleep between railway tracks at Port Augusta in SA's north, police say.
A train was approaching the Tassie Street crossing about 3.40am CDT today when the driver saw the man laying between the tracks, a police spokesman said.
"The driver saw a person laying between the railway tracks and immediately applied the emergency braking, resulting in the train stopping over the person," the spokesman said.
Police and ambulance officers who attended the scene found the man trapped underneath the train but unhurt.
He was taken to the Port Augusta Hospital but "suffered no serious or life-threatening injuries", the spokesman said.
