LIMA, Peru - The US Geological Survey says a magnitude 6.4 earthquake has shaken southern Peru.
The USGS says the quake's epicentre was 25 kilometres west of Tacna, Peru, at a depth of 11 kilometres. The quake struck at 9:43 p.m. local time Wednesday and was near the border with Chile, which on February 27 was hammered by a huge magnitude 8.8 quake and tsunami.
On August 15, 2007, a magnitude 8.0 earthquake killed 596 people and reduced the Peruvian town of Pisco to rubble.
