A bolt of lightning killed a 15-year-old Boy Scout while he slept in a Utah log shelter during a violent storm.
The family of the victim, Paul Ostler, thanked leaders and doctors at the Scout camp "who tried so valiantly to save Paul's life" at Camp Steiner, near Salt Lake City.
Last week, an assistant Scoutmaster and a 13-year-old Scout were killed by lightning in California.
Four Scout leaders in Virginia were electrocuted in July after they lost control of a metal pole at the centre of a large dining tent, sending it toppling into nearby power lines.
