TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) Libyan security officials say a senior police officer has died of his wounds a day after a bomb stuck under his car blew up in the troubled eastern city of Benghazi.
The officials say Col. Kamal Bezazah died Sunday in a Benghazi hospital.
Bezazah also worked as a preacher at a local mosque and was a follower of the ultraconservative Salafi brand of Islam. He had spoken out against the wave of killings in Benghazi that have targeted policemen and army officers in recent months.
On Thursday, an American school teacher in the city was shot dead while jogging.
Benghazi is a stronghold of armed militias that operate outside of state control.
