The 19-year-old was on bail after a string of incidents police will allege he was involved in.
Hunia had been bailed twice in the weeks prior to the alleged aggravated burglary and faced burglary charges as well as charges for breaching previous bail conditions.
Hunia, originally from Rotorua, sports a long rats tail and partly shaved head. The teenager's social media accounts show him posing "like a gangster".
Pictures show him in clubs and at friends birthdays, often pulling faces or obscene gestures in the direction of the camera.
Hunia's mother has been to court eight times in the past to support her son - on six of those times he has been bailed despite previously allegedly breaking his bail conditions.
