Kiwi paedophile deported from Philippines

A New Zealand paedophile on the lam has been deported from the Philippines, to face trial on a number of charges.

David Stanley Tranter, 59, was deported from Santos City to Auckland last week, the Manila Bulletin reported.

Tranter was wanted in New Zealand for sexual assaulting minors, aggravated robbery and dishonesty charges, the newspaper reported. The Philippines Bureau of Immigration said Tranter "clearly poses a threat to our national security, public safety and domestic tranquillity".

"This, to our mind, is very alarming as these cases involved moral turpitude," the bureau said.

Tranter had been arrested by immigrations officials June 5 last year, and held in a detention centre as an illegal alien after not being able to present his passport.
