A Kiwi has been fined more than NZ$6000 and given a suspended sentence after he admitted to punching a police officer in Malta.
Stacey Wayne Wright, 21, became involved in a heated argument at a hotel in Paceville this week, where he went to sort out a personal issue allegedly involving a woman, the Independent reported.
A police officer was punched in the resulting scuffle.
Wright was charged with assaulting and slightly injuring the police officer, having directed his violence against a third party, disturbing public peace and refusing to obey police orders.
He was fined €4000 (NZ$6109) and given a jail term of eight months, suspended for one year.
Magistrate Neville Camilleri noted that Wright had filed an early guilty plea, cooperated with police and apologised for his actions.
