Britain's top judge has been trotted out to model the latest in judicial fashion, showcasing the effort to simplify the elaborate gowns and remove wigs from some courts.
The Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales showed off his flowing black robe yesterday as fashion veteran Betty Jackson looked on.
Jackson volunteered as a design consultant for the gown, which has pockets and is easier to carry around than traditional black robes.
The gown is part of a host of changes being phased in to simplify Britain's complex court attire.
