PERTH - Indonesian plane crash survivor Cynthia Banham was today undergoing further surgery in Perth for serious burns suffered in the disaster.
The 34-year-old journalist was airlifted to Perth yesterday from Indonesia with injuries suffered when a Garuda Boeing 737-400 plunged off a runway at Yogyakarta and caught fire, killing at least 21.
Burns specialist Fiona Wood has returned from Indonesia to Royal Perth Hospital to lead Ms Banham's treatment team, after assessing the treatment of other victims of the crash in Yogyakarta.
Ms Banham, who had surgery yesterday, was undergoing more surgery this morning, a hospital spokesman said.
Her partner Michael Harvey said yesterday she had very severe injuries and he and her family were comforted knowing she was receiving the best medical attention.
Burns surgeon Suzanne Rea said yesterday any major burns patient would have to face a series of operations and months or perhaps years of rehabilitation.
