A Queensland man who spent nine hours lost at sea has shown he has a sense of humour by laughing on Australian television about how he survived the ordeal while wearing nothing but a pair of underpants.
Ben Mackay was fishing when his boat capsized forcing him to cling to the tinnie for hours on Saturday night south off Mackay. "That's all I had on — a pair of jocks," he told Sunrise on Seven.
Mackay also spent three hours swimming to shore, fighting cramps, and then had to walk to find help. His journey was aided by a lucky find — a pair of yellow women's crocs.
Sunrise co-host Samantha Armytage said: "Sorry for laughing but you're wearing your underwear and a pair of women's shoes. It is lucky you are okay."
Mackay was relieved to find help with a man offering him water and some Ferrero Rocher chocolates. His wife has since issued a warning that he "was never to go in the ocean, ever".
