TOKYO (AP) Japan has decided to donate $10 million to the Philippines for emergency aid to victims of Typhoon Haiyan.
The Foreign Ministry said Tuesday the money will be given to international aid organizations for emergency shelters, food and water. Japan had already dispatched an emergency medical team to the disaster area.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga says that of the 133 Japanese living on hard-hit Leyte Island and nearby Samal Island most married to Filipinos Tokyo has been able to confirm only that 27 are safe.
