The Japanese city of Nagasaki yesterday marked the 65th anniversary of the United States' atomic bomb attack in the waning days of World War II.
A moment of silence was observed at the time when the Americans dropped an atomic bomb on the southern Japanese city on August 9, 1945, three days after its first nuclear bombing targeting Hiroshima.
About 80,000 people were killed in Nagasaki and about 140,000 were killed or died within months in Hiroshima. Japan surrendered on August 15, ending World War II.
