KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) Jamaican authorities have seized 362 kilograms (798 pounds) of cocaine at the capital's seaport in what police say is the island's largest seizure this year.
Police said in a late Saturday statement that the cocaine was discovered by port security personnel in a shipping container at Kingston's Port Bustamante.
The container originated in Venezuela and was destined for the Netherlands. The drugs were found stuffed in bags. There have been no arrests in connection with the cocaine seizure.
During the first half of 2013, police say cocaine seizures in Jamaica doubled to 354 kilograms (780 pounds) compared to the same period last year.
The central Caribbean as a whole seems to be coming back into favor with transnational drug cartels, with island authorities reporting increases in seizures.
