KEY POINTS:
A group of enterprising Italian tramps set up camp inside the world's most glamorous shopping arcade, it has emerged. The 10 tramps constructed a home in the attic of Milan's Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a few floors above the seven-star Galleria Townhouse hotel, where guests pay £2500 ($6,600) a night.
Their hideaway, which had a refrigerator, washing machine and kitchen sink, was discovered during a routine security check. The utilities were illegally connected to the water pipes within the building but the tramps had to use the toilet at a nearby McDonald's. The tramps had apparently made a copy of a key and gained access to the attic through a service elevator.
They have now been moved on.
