Iranian warning over US sanctions

Iran has warned it will abandon an offer to ship some of its uranium stockpile abroad if the United States imposes new sanctions.

Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said Washington's continued determination to impose sanctions threatened the deal struck last week with Brazil and Turkey which Iran had hoped would avert new United Nations sanctions.

The West is seeking sanctions to pressure Iran over its nuclear activities.

Western powers fear Iran is secretly trying to produce nuclear weapons, but Tehran says it is enriching uranium only to produce fuel for nuclear power stations.
