Greenpeace activists have started building a modern day version of Noah's Ark on Turkey's Mount Ararat.
Many people believe that Mount Ararat is the place where Noah's Ark landed after the floods. The replica ark, 2,500 meters above sea level, is designed to be a symbol of hope and dramatic plea to world leaders to take action to avoid catastrophic global warming, Greenpeace states on its website.
Over the next 2 weeks a team of 20 German and Turkish carpenters will complete the 10m x 4m x 4m construction of the boat, according to the organisation.
The official ceremony of the finished ark is said to be on May 31. Greenpeace says, activists would climb the 5,137 meter summit of Mount Ararat one day before the ceremony and call on the leaders of all nations to make climate protection a reality.
