Rose Mattus, who launched Haagen-Dazs ice cream with her husband, has died. She was 90. Her husband, Reuben, died in 1994. The Bronx company was formed in 1961. Reuben Mattus concocted the name Haagen-Dazs, which means nothing, for the brand that became famous for super-rich recipes. Pillsbury Co acquired Haagen-Dazs in 1983, reportedly for about $US70 million ($105 million). It is now owned by Nestle SA.
