Former President Hassan Gouled Aptidon, who led the tiny African country of Djibouti for more than 20 years as the first leader after independence from France, has died.
He was believed to be 90.
Gouled installed an authoritarian one-party state when he took power in 1977.
After a civil war in the early 1990s he introduced a limited multiparty system.
