Baroness Liliane de Rothschild, a discreet member of the French banking family known for her generous art donations, has died in her late 80s.
Born Liliane Fould-Springer in 1916, she married banker-winemaker Baron Elie de Rothschild in 1941.
With the family's vast wealth, they acquired first-rate art and period furnishings, much of which has been donated to French museums like the Louvre.
Liliane de Rothschild was a member of the American Friends of French Art charity and also worked on the restoration of French manor houses and chateaux.
