An independent investigation is being launched into the vicious polar bear attack that killed a British schoolboy, according to the Guardian.
Horatio Chapple, 17, was camping on Spitsbergen island in the Svalbard archipelago in the Arctic circle with the British Schools Exploring Society (BSES) when he was mauled to death by the bear on Friday.
Four other members of their group were injured and are being treated in hospital in the UK said the British newspaper.
Patrick Flinders, 16, who was sharing a tent with Chapple when the polar bear attacked, has been called a hero after punching the bear in the nose in an attempt to scare it away.
BSES spokesman Edward Watson told the Guardian that the organisation would leave "no stone unturned" in investigating the incident.
