Indonesian police kill man suspected of links to Bali 9

Indonesian police have gunned down a Nepali man believed to have had links with the nine Australians arrested this month in Bali for alleged heroin trafficking.

Man Singh Ghale, 43, was shot after he put up "resistance" during a drug bust in the city of Bekasi, on Jakarta's eastern outskirts.

"The suspect was part of a Golden Triangle and (Golden) Crescent drug network," Inspector General Sutanto, head of Indonesia's anti-narcotics police, told reporters in Bali.

The Golden Triangle is a drug-producing area where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet. The Golden Crescent is a similar area linking Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran.

Sutanto said police had found more than 1 kg of heroin, 276 grams of cocaine and some 500 ecstasy pills in the Bekasi raid.

He said the Nepali may have supplied drugs to nine Australians arrested this month in a joint operation with Australian police in Bali for alleged heroin trafficking.
