Republicans and Democrats alike are calling for Illinois legislators to begin impeachment proceedings against Governor Rod Blagojevich, saying the step is necessary to restore confidence in state government after charges he tried to profit from his power to choose a replacement to take President-elect Barack Obama's vacant Senate seat.
Legislators were to meet yesterday for the first time since Blagojevich was arrested last week on charges related to the Senate seat and allegations that he tried to get businesses seeking state deals to pay up.
