Bush vetoes Iraq pullout bill
President George W. Bush vetoed legislation that would force him to begin withdrawing US combat troops from Iraq this year, setting up a new showdown with Democratic leaders in Congress over funding the war.
"Setting a deadline for withdrawal is setting a deadline for failure, and that would be irresponsible," Bush said in a nationally televised speech shortly after issuing only the second veto of his presidency.

Turkey's presidency vote annulled, PM calls for early election
Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said his government would seek an early parliamentary election on either June 24 or July 1 in a bid to break the current political paralysis.
The Constitutional Court annulled last week's first round vote in parliament after an appeal by the secularist opposition, which rejects the ruling AK Party's candidate, Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, because of his Islamist past.

BP boss quits after gay affair exposed
Oil giant BP said its chief executive John Browne had resigned with immediate effect, after a British court decided a newspaper group was free to publish details of his gay lifestyle.
The court yesterday lifted an injunction preventing a newspaper group from publishing details about his private life.
Browne, who had been due to step down in July, said he had decided to leave now to "avoid unnecessary embarrassment and distraction to the company".
